Much To My Delight

Jenn and Kim’s Day Off

You may remember a few weeks ago I mentioned that my agency was closing. Yesterday was my first official day of unemployment. My co-worker Kim (Kimmy, Kimmy-Pie) was in the same boat, so we begrudgingly spent another day together even though we were no longer forced to by our employer.

Ugh, being unemployed is so miserable.
We were feeling so low and crummy that we slumped down in big wicker chairs and ordered two glasses of sangria by the water in Battery Park City. We were a sad sight to behold, let me tell you.
And by two glasses, I really mean a whole pitcher. We really were distraught.
Man, could I look more sad and pitiful?
That’s nothing. Look at this sad sack.

Then the waiter came by, saw our distress, and forced us to finish a huge plate of hideously cheesy nachos. What a sadist.

Kim put on a brave face. She was crying two seconds before kicking her leg back in forced merriment.

It hurts to see myself this way, using a railing to hold myself up from crumpling on the floor in tears. Bless you railing. You saved the day.

After three hours of sitting on a breezy patio, we forced ourselves to kick back on a riverfront bench for two more. The view was horrible. Truly lackluster.

Ugh, I can barely look at it. It offends me.
The sun finally set on our miserable, horrible, very no good day. Thank God that’s over!

Long time reader first time commenter… I was literally laughing out loud. GREAT post. Hopefully you’ll get to enjoy many more “tragic” days like this one before you’re forced back into the trenches. Best- THL

I laughed all the way through this! (not unusual for your posts:) You crack me up. And that did look like a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. YUCK! (and by that I mean that horrible, make you feel so sad sangria! YUMMERS.) Love you, girl.

Ah yes unemployment isn’t all that bad now is it? ;) I loved your comment on my blog, I’m feeling the exact same way! Excited for the pumpkin lattes, the leaves…not so much the sweaters (yet) but there’s just something so magical about fall. Hope you enjoy what’s left of the summer!

Oh my gosh! At least you can find humour in being unemployed. Hopefully you both will be employed soon! Sometimes I wish I didn’t have to work so I could enjoy all the fun things and travel, but then I wouldn’t have any money! Heather

Gosh…you two are gorgeous, first off. Secondly (and most importantly) you are obviously smart and talented. Enjoy your day of relaxation while you can…you will be hired ASAP! Thank you for sharing this delicious treat. I’m enjoying your pictures and your words with a cup of coffee in my hands and rolls rising on the counter. Hugs and love from Austin!

I’d advise you to, first thing Monday morning, head over to the unemployment office and sign your ass up. It obviously agrees with you, as much as you try to tell us differently. Ha. Seriously, you do know that you just lived pretty much the perfect day, right? I live for sangria and nachos. And being unemployed.

Please note: Kim and I have already been hired (at the same agency!) and have the next few weeks to play. Results are not typical:)
