Much To My Delight

Much To My Delight

A Summary of Life Lately, in Action Verbs

Copying:  This blogging format from nearly every blog I’ve read within the past month. I like it, and wish I knew who to credit the idea to.

Taking:  My first official snow day today. I have schlepped in every other snowy day this season and sat around for hours with nothing to do. I’m not getting paid to organize my desk drawers, so today I will either stay in and bake cupcakes or go out and eat pancakes.

Reminiscing About:  The first time I saw snow. I was 11 and went skiing with my family in Nevada. I got third degree burns and horrible blisters on my face because I didn’t believe you could get sunburned if it was cold outside.

Missing:  My niece, who turned 9 last weekend. When I told her I was sorry for missing another birthday party she said: “Well, you live in New York and I live in Texas. Duh.” Hello, sassy tween years!

Watching:  A million documentaries and old Cheers reruns on NetFlix since our TV hit the skids a few weeks ago. I blame this whole “mercury in retrograde” phenomenon for me missing the Winter Olympics.

Appreciating:  The three young men I overheard on the subway yesterday, whose Valentine’s plans include walking around the city giving single roses to single mothers. Chivalry is not dead!

Dreaming:  About sidewalks not completely covered in ice, cars not trapped under a brick of snow, and sun. Bright, beautiful, shoulder-burning sun. And little umbrellas in a cocktail.

Marveling: At the women wearing heels and short skirts for NY Fashion Week this past week. I leave the house wrapped up like the little brother in “A Christmas Story” every morning. I have no idea how those girls dress like that without losing toes or consciousness.

Sneezing:  My brains out. Can’t kick this cold. Must eat more of this soup (make your own cold-kickin’ broth by simmering an organic chicken with a million cloves of garlic, a stupid amount of ginger and tons of cracked black peppercorns, then add in chewy udon noodles, cilantro, chives and the shredded chicken).

Listening:  To Ronnie Milsap radio on repeat. Because it never disappoints and I have the same taste in music as my 86-year-old Texan grandfather.

Feeling:  A little squishy. Some of my healthy habits have gone off the rails lately.

Switching: From $7 Lavazza coffee to $2 Cafe Caribe. Can barely tell a difference. Fellow cheapskates take note.

Researching: Post-graduate training programs, seminars and workshops to strengthen my work skillz. And I’m dragging all my therapist buddies down with me. Post-graduate posse in effect.

Loving:  The tiny white Christmas tree I purposely left in my windowsill to keep my winter spirits from wilting. I will be doing this every year, post-holiday. It really helps.

Considering:  Waking up Vinny so we can go play in the snowstorm.

Re-considering:  Tomorrow’s V-Day. My dream gift is flowers. His is sleep.

Venting: To every teacher at my school all night via group text about going to work today. We apparently can’t get over it. So glad you got to stay in! I by the way love this format as well and follow several blogs who use it; I wonder where it started?

Ah yes, but you have this week off to make up for it! Enjoy your jolly holiday, teacha!

Love that heart garland banner! Reminds me very much of our wedding decor, actually. And I really hope you feel better soon. I’ve been sick off and on since November, and I’m getting really tired of going through endless boxes of tissues. I keep joking that I’ve been sick for 50 percent of our marriage thus far, but . . . it’s actually the truth. Blech!

Cute banner right? It was in a little clothing boutique. Hope you feel better soon!

DYING from your last two posts. DRINKING vino now.

      Muchas gracias Chef!

    Vino here, too! Hope you’re feeling better/have kicked those sniffles… : )
